ISEPEI’s 2018 summer workshops ended

This summer, for the fifth year in a row, CEU Syslab through its ISEPEI project hosted two environmental professional workshops aimed at improving data-driven decision-making and presenting the latest advances in information and communication technologies (ICTs), and their application in various fields.

CEU and UNOOSA continue cooperation through the professional training program within ISEPEI project’s framework. On July 2, the workshop on “Geospatial Technologies for Sustainable Water Management” started, continuing the traditional series of trainings for mid-career professionals in ICTs, geospatial technologies and remote sensing for water security and management.

June 25, 2018, marked the beginning of this year’s two-week workshop series within the ISEPEI project’s framework. This week decision-makers and experts working in the field of climate change and disaster risk reduction for the fourth time gathered at Central European University (CEU) for the joint ISEPEI and UNDP "Innovations in Disaster Risk Management" workshop.

ISEPEI at UN / Pakistan / PSIPW International Conference on the Use of Space Technology for Water Management

ISEPEI took part in the 4th International Conference on the Use of Space Technology for Water Management, held in Islamabad, Pakistan, from 26 February to 2 March 2018. This event was hosted by the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) on behalf of the Government of Pakistan, co-sponsored by the Inter-Islamic Network on Space Science and Technology (ISNET).

Open Lectures by Group on Earth Observations at CEU

In the beginning of February Dr. Douglas Cripe, the Work Programme Coordinator from the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Secretariat, visited CEU to give two lectures on the application of Earth Observations in support of SDGs and Disaster Resilience.

First Cooperating Organisations for Summer University Confirmed

ISEPEI will again host summeruniversity workshops in 2018 for which the first course flyers with the first confirmed cooperating organisations have been released (see image).

Among them are representatives of UNDP, Google, Esri, UNOOSA, Airbus DS Geo, the International Hydrological Programme of UNESCO, and the Global Environment Facility of the World Bank Group, to name a few. ISEPEI at UN/Russian Federation Workshop on Human Capacity-Building in Space Science and Technology

ISEPEI took part in the United Nations/Russian Federation Workshop on Human Capacity-Building in Space Science and Technology for Sustainable Social and Economic Development, held in Samara, Russian Federation, between October 30 and November 2, 2017. This workshop was co-organized by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs and Samara National Research University.

CEU and UNDP continue their professional training program through the ISEPEI project focussing on the recent advances in information and communication technologies (ICTs). The workshop will assess how these advances are empowering both decision-makers and citizens to play a proactive role in managing disaster risk and providing a more effective response.

Dr Alan Belward (JRC) joins 2017 courses

The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) confirmed contributing to ISEPEI courses in 2017. Dr Alan Belward, the Head of the Knowledge for Sustainable Development & Food Security Unit, will run a day long session within the course on "Geospatial Technologies for Sustainable Water Management" on July 3-7th.  Dr Belward already participated to similar ISEPEI's courses in 2016 with a series of very succesfull presentations and practical exercises on remote sensing and sattelite technologies.
