UNEP Representative Meets with CEU Environmental Sciences Students
Mahesh Pradhan, the head of UNEP’s Environmental Education and Training Unit (EETU) in Nairobi, Kenya, spent last week at CEU as a co-director for the Summer University course titled “Bridging ICTs and Environment – Making Information Talk and Technologies Work.” The flagship program of UNEP’s EETU is the Global Universities Partnership on Environment and Sustainability (GUPES – http://www.gupes.org), of which CEU recently became a member. GUPES aims to increase the incorporation of environment and sustainability practices into universities around the world, while encouraging the interaction these universities have with UNEP.
During his time in Budapest, Pradhan, accompanied by Larissa Owen of the Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Initiative (AGEDI), set aside time to meet with a group of current Master's students and recent graduates. Pursuant to the aims of GUPES, Pradhan wanted to interact with the students, discuss their personal research interests, and inform them of UNEP’s recent initiatives that may be of use or interest to them. Furthermore, he wanted to gain firsthand insight into their opinions of CEU’s academic programs and how best practices at CEU could potentially be applied to other universities.
