ISEPEI Contributes to Arab States Green University Network Meeting in Jordan
Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Taher Shakhshir, the Jordanian Minister of Environmnet, UNEP, in partnership with the Arabic Universities Union, is conducting an Arab States Green University Network (ASGUN) consultative stakeholder dialogue in Amman, Jordan from 15-16 September 2015. The meeting was opened this morning by H.E. Dr. Taher Shakhashir and Dr. Iyad Abumoghli, Director and Regional Representative for UNEP Regional Office of West Asia (UNEP ROWA).
The meeting aims to develop a network of green universities in the Arab States to increase the incorporation of environmental sustainability into universities in the region, recognize best practices already being done, identify existing gaps and barriers to further incorporating education for sustainable development, and brainstorm ways to move forward. University presidents, vice presidents, deans, and professors from the Arab States and beyond are coming together to share their experience in incorporating sustainablility into several aspects of universities: green campuses, green curriculum, community engagement, and student engagement.
Viktor Lagutov and Emily Nilson are representing Central European University and the ISEPEI Project at the ASGUN meeting. They will be giving a joint presentation on how universities can be utilized as hubs for executive education, using the pilot study of ISEPEI at CEU and the series of successful workshops that have been conducted since 2014. ISEPEI aims to establish a twinning hub in the Arab States region at which similar activities will be conducted.
This meeting is another step for ISEPEI towards the upcoming Eye on Earth Summit taking place next month in Abu Dhabi (http://www.eoesummit.org/), in which Viktor is heavily involved in preparations as the Facilitator of the Eye on Water Security Special Initiative and the Chair or the Eye on Environmental Education Special Initiative.
